For Our GuestsAll are welcome to join in the parade. Extra musicians should join the band and guests are welcome to wear colorful spring attire and carry greenery. We line up for the parade at 11:30, it usually takes 20-25 minutes to get everyone organized and set into the proper order. We line up on Church Street near the Episcopal Church. Morris Teams will Winster down the Street with each team having 32 bars for a show figure in front of the library. We will continue down to Mill Street, and from there to McMurran Hall, across from the Men's Club, where we will revel on the green and wrap the May Pole. Music: Winster Processional in key of G (Tunes and links for our May Day musicians). We will start the program with a greeting from the mayor followed by a short modern dance to wake up spring. Then we will dance Sellengers Round (for all who will), guest musicians who know the music will be welcome in our band. We ask that you then be seated for the performance of the Morris Minors dances and a Mummers Play. Then the Padstow Hobby Horse will do his dance while all sing The Padstow Morning Song and cake maidens serve the traditional "morris cake". The ceremony builds with morris and community performances culminating with the Maypole dance (we ask that adults only dance on the large maypole, children are asked to dance at the smaller maypoles that are on the perimeter of the area). After the Maypole dance, we will dance a short morris stand on the pavement for our audience (before it disperses), and then have a picnic lunch alfresco at the park. |
